Dear 2016....Thank You!

I was contemplating on writing one of those infamous "New Year New Me" blog post!  But after a great conversation with one of my friends, I decided to go a different route. This past year has been a roller coaster but I can't say I didn't enjoy it.  So many things have happened this past year and a lesson is what I took from each experience. One of the many goals on my vision board for this year was to get and network. I did just that and made several new connections in my local blogger and entrepreneur circle. Within these connections, led me to collaborate with local bloggers, businesses and photographers. Let me say I definitely stepped COMPLETELY out of my comfort zone. I'm normally a little shy when attending by myself, but this year changed everything.

This year has also taught me that LOVING MYSELF  for who I am IS MORE than okay! That I'm in no way or shape my mistakes or what others may say.  I needed to quit seeking validation from others and just be who GOD intended me to be. I know probably saying "Wow you're just NOW figuring that out?!" But honestly, it hasn't always been this easy accepting myself.

I had a chance to be featured on  a local style segment and I was SO excited about. But I knew there was a chance that finding a swimsuit in MY size from local boutique wouldn't be easy. Of course, my size wasn't available which left me feeling a little uneasy. I kept saying to myself "IF ONLY I WAS SMALLER or IF ONLY I WAS THIS OR THAT"  But after wallowing in self-pity for a couple of days, I picked myself up and spoke life into this situation. I had to remind myself who I am and there had to be a reason that I was chosen for the style segment.

From that experience sparked so many ideas and visions that will come to pass in 2017. I even added a segment to my blog Same Fit +More to show that just because you're plus-size it doesn't mean you want or can't wear certain clothing.

Within a month later I got an email from local ladies Jenifer Collins and Liz Martin. For that past six months, they've put together styled shoots. Let's just say these ladies don't understand how much each shoot that I've participated in has given me so much more confidence in myself. At first, I was worried because I was the only plus size blogger in these shoots. But I had to remind myself again Ireana you're here for a reason and you have a purpose to fulfill!

This photo is from our most recent Holy City Chicks Shoot. We shot this in Whole Foods, YES Whole Food at 6:00 pm. The store was full of customers and of course, they were wondering what the heck what we were doing.  This shoot brought the GLAM out of me. Like the Too Glam To Give A.. confidence. I was a bit nervous at first but I channeled my inner modelesque skills.

What can you take from this story for the next 365?

Remember that you're here on this earth for a purpose.

Speak life into yourself and what you're facing

QUIT looking for others to always validate you

Don't let ANYONE tell you what you can't do

Stay true to yourself

I could go on and on but don't wait until the NEW YEAR to make changes. You can start fresh every day, every hour and second. It's up to you to make IT happen. So if you're wondering what is the purpose behind my blog, well this story sums it up!

2016 Thank You for the experiences, I can say I made it because every day wasn't always easy!

Sincerely,
Ireana
